I was born in Leeds, UK, but spent most of my childhood in the south of England, and gained a degree in illustration from Brighton University.
I set out on my career very much focused on natural history illustration, and am still passionate about wildlife. I illustrated many natural history books but diversified later into gardening and food illustration, leading to packaging and magazine work. I developed a loose watercolour style for the food work in particular, and still love the ‘live’ quality this brings to a piece of work.
Increasingly I am working in children’s fiction, creating mainly animal characters. My background in natural history work has proved invaluable for this, as my aim is for the animals to be credible and recognisable for what they are – albeit with a smile on their face!
I can work either by hand in line and watercolour, digitally, or a combination of the two.
